Mens' Watches; not just for time anymore

Mens' watches originally were used in the united states to make sure that the train system was running on time and that there was a standard time kept so that there were no major collisions! These watches were so special that they had their own private federal standards to keep up to. The general form that the watch took on was that of the pocket watch, which consisted of just the watch face attached to a chain that fastened it to the wearers clothing. These watches were worn by men as most people in the railroad industry were all men.

In the 1900's watch makers like rolex and omega also began taking off and selling their watches next to jewelry stores and even considering the watch itself a pice of jewelry!

In the late 80's and early 90's the watches all went digital! With all the major watch makers making some type of digital watch! These watches came from companies like Casio, Timex, and Citizen, features often included a digital calculator, a digital calendar, and sometimes even a thermometer  These watches were often, if not exclusively constructed of plastic. These type of watches were also directed to men as they were the ones more likely to pickup more technologically driven items.

In the late 90's and early 00's watches took a back seat and were replaced by the cellphone, no one really wore a watch to tell what time anymore, and the newer generations found them to be redundant when the cellphone just as simply as a watch could tell you what time it was.

There is also the "James Bond effect" every time that a new movie in the franchies comes out people always pay attention to his gadgets whether they be his car, pens, or watches. During the movies theatrical time these items tends to be a hot commodity.

Starting in the late 00's, till now, we did see the watch do a revival as a fashion statement with big bold faces. The big face watches are so trendy that even the President has been seen wearing one!

At present a big pusher in the watch market for the masses is Michael Kors! His most popular watches for men in his las collection were those he did in rose gold. For his current collection the popular watches are those done in rose gold, but there is also an uptake in the colored stainless steel watches! With Michael Kors' growing empire, he's also taking the watch industry by storm!

Strapped In

If you're as obsessed as we are with boots, then you probably already know which style is passing the trustworthy combat boot on the freeway to TrendTown. Welcome the newest gritty rock god of footwear: the multi-buckled boot. It's a supercharged statement that makes an outfit go from 0 to badass in 3 seconds.

Mix textures for an
extra industrial appeal
These rebellious black beauties are selling out at trendy online retailers such as Nasty Gal and Pixie Market, and with good reason. They are insanely easy to wear (so you can peel your winter leggings off now) and they can be found at various price points. Both the moto and western styles have an enthusiastic thumbs up from the Trinket Trailer team, but the cut out boot/shoe thing is growing on me faster than mold in a flooded lumberyard.

Stacking is not just for your wrist
Although I usually subscribe to the "more straps the better" philosophy on fashion in general, I am openly in love with the Croc Wrap Pointy Boots. But of course I can't end this week's post without mentioning Mr. Campbell; he knocks another one out of the park with the Tripoli Cutout Boot. From the side you're all "Aw three buckles, how cute, but sassy," and then they face you with a glare because they caught you staring and are like "What are YOU lookin' at, punk!?"
Bigger buckles on a taller shaft
can ride out most trend cycles.
Hold on to these if you already got 'em!

Basically, it's time to retire your Sam Edelman Zoe's if you're fixin' to keep your shoe closet edgy. The Trailer suggests you hit the dusty road in cutoffs, a muscle tee, and an obnoxious skull ring.

Bow ties are no longer only a male’s feature, designers have been making them unisex.  From the runway down the street style you see all different types of bow ties being worn.  Unlike ties, bow ties can give a certain style the push up it needs in order to make the difference stand out.  Many of us have our signature piece or style that they love to keep coming back to, well, bow-ties can be your signature piece.  It is said that one receives more attention and praise for wearing one, or simply knowing how to really tie one.  Bow ties are simply more or less of a timeless piece of clothing.  So forget about the labels and try being bold!  Wouldn’t you rather be labeled as being a “setter”….Try it!

Bow ties can be found in several different types and shapes.

There is the classic style:

The straight style:

The diamond point style:

And the butterfly style:

For women, there is the Kentucky Colonel, the Western String, the Crossover, the  oversized and the plain self-tie bow tie, as shown below:

Mens' Ties

King Louis XIV of France

traditional tie

Mens' ties have for the most part consisted of two main styles: bows, and ties. The bow is really a mutation from the look of a French King (King Louis XIV of France) whom popularized the style. Over time this style evolved into the modern tie. The tie is one of the classic elements of mens' dress that has survived nearly 400 years of social change!

Justin Timberlake in his new video "Suit & Tie" brings the "Sexy Back" by wearing a classic black and white Suit that was designed especially for the filming of the video by Tom Ford.

Due to the rich history of the tie, there are also different variations of the tie itself that have re-emerged onto the current collections, each one giving a specific type of feeling. The caravat scarf gives the feeling of high-end class and sophistication, while the handkerchief scarf gives the look of a rouged/hard working individual, and lastly the modern scarf sets the feeling of a trendy individual.

In the late 60s, early 70s there was a wide adoption of the super wide ties, introduced by Ralph Lauren, this kept being the major form of ties up until the dot com bubble bust. The over all tie seemed to have vanished in general use. In the late 90s and early 00s the reemergence of the skinny ties were adopted as fashion statements by punk bands, thus inspiring the over all culture and causing a mass adoption. At present we see many design houses featuring knit ties in their collections, something that can be used to dress up/down a look of the wearer.

Then we go to those ties that like to push the boundaries and make a fashion statement, the tie above gives the illusion that the wearer is wearing two ties, but due to how this tie was created, it just seems that way.

Then there are the true trend setters, like Matthew Morrison at the 2013 SAG Awards wearing a Dior shirt that embodies the idea of wearing a bow tie, without actually doing it!

“This is the essence of a bow tie,

but it’s really a shirt!”
